He urged signing a proper settlement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to ship extra weapons so long as Ukraine pledges not to use them in Russia.
“Sign a formal agreement saying we will not use these weapons in Russia,” McFaul defined. “I believe that’s a greater answer than sitting in Washington and making an attempt to modulate and calculate precisely what we wish Ukrainians to do on the battlefield.
“And number two, this threat of escalation, we’ve been talking about this for over three months. We keep hearing that we do this, we do that, we do this, we do that — [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin is going to escalate. And yet what is the evidence about? If the escalation is going to take place inside Ukraine, shouldn’t we trust the Ukrainians to know their security interests better than we do?”
Reports last week indicated the White House was making ready to ship long-range programs to Ukraine as Russia persists in its brutal invasion that started over three months in the past on Feb. 24.
On Monday, Biden informed reporters “We are not going to send to Ukraine rocket systems that can strike into Russia,” after arriving again on the White House from Delaware — denying Zelensky’s request for Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) in addition to High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).

Two, Ukraine pushes Russia out of Ukraine. Or three, there’s a stalemate on the battlefield. To me, option two and option three are the ones that we should be supporting and the way you do that is to give the Ukrainians what they need to achieve one of those two outcomes.”
McFaul caught warmth again in March after he compared Putin to Adolf Hiter when he claimed even Hitler didn’t kill ethnic Germans or German audio system whereas Putin has bombed Russian audio system residing in Ukraine through the ongoing warfare.
